Marvin Beaird, Jr., 89, died Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at an Abilene medical center. The son of the late Minnie Lillian (Brantley) and Henry Marvin Beaird, Sr., Henry was born on March 30, 1917, in Malakoff, Texas. His family moved to Trinidad, where he completed high school in 1938. Henry enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps, and was assigned to a B-18 aircraft. Following duties at Borinquin Field in Porto Rico, Caracas, Venezuela and various military bases, he was assigned to a new air base in Hammond, Louisiana, and shortly thereafter was assigned to the Abilene Army Air Base as a supply technician.

Across the street from his office was the Supply Section for flying equipment, the office in which his future bride, Edith Braune, was supply clerk. They were married on December 23, 1944, at First Baptist Church in Abilene. Most of their lives were spent in Abilene.

Henry retired from the U. S. Air Force after a 20-year career, later working for Civil Service.

Actively involved in the View Community, he was a member of View Baptist Church, serving as treasury secretary of the church for several years. Henry was a charter member of the View Volunteer Fire Department of which he served as fire chief for several years. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 6873 in Abilene.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Beaird of Abilene, and several nephews and nieces.
